I proudly graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University in 2013 and went on to pursue an MBA in Accounting with the goal of becoming a CPA. During this time, I also met my soulmate, got married, and welcomed our first child in 2016.
Looking back, my journey in hair braiding began in 2009 when I started working at a local braiding shop to support myself through college. When the shop closed unexpectedly, I took a leap of faith and started my own home-based hair braiding service. This decision not only paid for my education and living expenses but also allowed me to support my family back home.
My name is Mariama, and I was born and raised in Senegal, West Africa. From a young age, I was always fascinated by beauty enhancement – whether it was hair braiding, makeup, or fashion design. However, coming from a family where education was paramount, with my father a professor and my mother a businesswoman, pursuing higher education was non-negotiable.
My journey took an unexpected turn when I moved to the United States in 2009. While my initial focus was on academics, I discovered a way to finance my education that would ultimately shape my future: hair braiding.
